Res Novissimae De Me
Thank you to all those interested in Carmina Catulli: Poems of Catullus. The Revised and Corrected edition is just about ready to publish. I made changes to correct words I got wrong and words I thought would be better translated otherwise. This is not a scholarly edition - nor is the revised one: my intention from the start was to translate the poems into a rhythmic English and to present, since Roman poetry was read aloud, an easily readable and even a performance-ready Poems of Catullus.
These are days in the life of Catullus, a young, a well-to-do man of Verona, Italy, in the mid-1st Century BCE. He knew Julius Caesar, Cicero and Lesbia, his love, his girl - though another man's wife - against the background of a Republic that was beginning to come undone. For the rest, I will not tell you who he is or judge what he said or did. I'll leave it to the reader to go past hearing to listening. I hope you take the opportunity to meet him. It's a great read and a great ride! Enjoy!
Carmina Catulli: Poems of Catullus is available at Amazon in print and Kindle formats and through Kindle Unlimited where members can read it for FREE! Take a look - especially in light of the loves, desires and what we think life means to us in our own time.
Though countless others have translated the poems of Catullus, I am thrilled nonetheless to have published this book. I enjoyed every moment! I've translated the poems into a rhythmic English, intending that they be read aloud, as they were two millennia ago. I must caution that this translation, rated 'R' at least, is not for the prissy, proper or politically correct: some poems are as coarse as others are beautiful and all of them are passionate words of love and hate written for and to those who were friends, un-friends and some who were just sources of irritation.
